Why I Prefer Bichons

Hi, Thanks for visiting my site!

I am Susan, also known as Sweetheart, Mom, Doctor, librarian, kennel owner, groomer and show handler of my own dogs.  I have been involved with Bichons for over 10 years.  I absolutely adore the breed.  As a mom, I like dogs that do not require hours and hours of upkeep, exercise or shedding hair to sweep up.  As a Vet, I like dogs that do not have serious health or structural issues.  As a groomer, I am just partly insane and love the challenge and creativity of a dog that can be sculpted into whatever look I desire. My husband is somewhat allergic to dogs and Bichons fit the bill nicely, as they are fairly hypoallergenic. My kids love the dogs because they are small enough to handle easily, while still being sturdy enough to play with.

So what started this crazy love of a breed that would cause me spend an excessive amount of time and money?  It has to be my "Double".  She is, in my humble opinion, the best dog ever.  Okay, so some might disagree and I have more than one best dog ever, but she really got me to research the breed more and led me to my awesome friend, Lyle Harding.  Lyle is a fantastic mentor, she has taught me a great deal about the dog show and breeding world.  I owe her so much!  Lyle shows and breeds Bichons, Portuguese Water Dogs and Lowchens.  It has been through this relationship that I have been able to own great dogs and start my breeding program.  It is my desire to one day have my own well-known line of gorgeous, happy, healthy Bichons Frises.

As a full-time doctor, full-time mom, and full-time dog owner, what spare time might I have?  Fortunately, I do have a little and during that time we all go camping; people and dogs.  Yep, white fluffy dogs like to camp too!  I also like to sew and do little projects for the kids and the dogs such as blankets, crate mats, clothes and other fun things for myself.  I teach a couple of classes for the local Tech college and at church.  I participate in career day at some of the middle schools and volunteer as a "lunch lady" and classroom aid for my kid's school as well. Is that enough for one woman to do?  I could probably do more, but then I wouldn't have time to keep this blog updated.  Happy reading and I hope you enjoy Bichons as much as I do!
